Experience:
Dr Russell BLACKER, Consultant Psychiatrist since 1986, is a full time clinician. He received the Laughlin prize for the MRCPsych, plus other clinical awards, and in 1993 was made Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Previously Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter he has a special interest in Affective Disorders, Anxiety disorders including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Occupational Stress/Burnout, Chronic Fatigue, Abnormal Illness Behaviour, the interrelation between psychiatry and medical illness (Liaison Psychiatry), Childbirth-related disorders, previous experience of working with chronic Pain,and a special interest in psychopharmacology. He is principal author of over fifty research articles, reviews, and chapters and has an MD (Doctor of Medicine)in Affective Disorders.
He has 18 years experience of Medicolegal work in Personal Injury, Employment Tribunal, Medical Negligence, and Occupational Stress/Health work.
He has a reputation for doing more complex cases which require careful forensic analysis but he is equally happy to undertake simple cases.
He prepares approximately 160 ML reports a year. The waiting list is usually less than 4 weeks and the turnaround (providing all materials and records are disclosed) normally 2-3 weeks. He is willing to see clients anywhere in the UK but his main consulting rooms are in Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Torquay and Truro.
His ratio of claimant to defendant work varies but is approximately 60% and 30% with 10% joint instructions. He is, however, willing to do more defendant work.
He is a member of the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and undergoes regular medicolegal CPD training.
