Experience:
Dr Rebecca Aylward trained in Medicine at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, qualifying in 1983 with General Medical training in Gloucester, Oxford and London. She undertook specialist training in both Neurology and Paediatric neurology, holding posts at the Salpétrière in Paris, the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge, Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, and the Western General Hospital Edinburgh.
From 1987-1990, she undertook research as a Wellcome Training Fellow in Oxford, studying the anatomical neuropharmacology of schizophrenia.
She has held consultant posts at the Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary and at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, where she was Lead Clinician for the Managed Clinical Network in Epilepsy for South East Scotland. Her team won a national award for the quality of its epilepsy services. Whilst in Scotland she built up a modest medicolegal practice, supplying reports on a range of neurological issues involving both adults and children.
She has recently taken up a post as Consultant Neurologist at Torbay hospital. Her main specialist interest remains epilepsy though she runs a busy general neurology service as well.
She is married to another neurologist and has three children.
